Obituary of Mervin Russell Kohut

Please share a memory of Mervin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It’s with great sadness that the family of Mervin Russell Kohut announces his tragic passing on August 12, 2020.

Mervin was born on June 3, 1942 in Yorkton, SK to John and Pearl Kohut. He grew up on the family farm near Kelliher. Merv moved to Regina at the age of 16, where he found employment at the stockyards. For most of his adult life, Merv worked in the construction industry.

In 1967, Merv met his future wife Mary at a dance in Pilot Butte. They were married at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Regina in 1969. They welcomed sons Dwayne in 1970 and Darrell in 1972.

Merv spent his spare time hunting, gardening, berry picking, making sausage and spending time with his family. After retirement, he volunteered yearly at Agribition working in the bull wash.

Merv, fondly known as “old-timer” or Mervasaurus spent much time with his beloved grandchildren Jorja and Aidan.  He was always a great neighbor and never hesitated to lend a hand with yardwork, shoveling and having a good chat with anyone. His favourite topics were football and politics. Merv had a fondness for sweets and you could guarantee he always had a mint or chocolate on hand if you asked.

Merv was predeceased by his parents John and Pearl. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary; sons Dwayne (Jolene),  Darrell (Shannon) ; grandchildren Jorja, Aidan, Rhett, Jamie and Janessa; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
