Obituary of John Christian Young

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness we wish to announce the passing of John Young – beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. John passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the Pasqua Hospital. His loving family was at his side day and night.

John went to Heaven and was welcomed by his parents Christian and Caroline Young; infant son Brian; sons-in-law Gerald Wolbaum (Susan), Harley Horack (Susan), Robert Weisgerber (Janet); brothers Jack, Frank and George; sisters Theresa Dornstauder, Florence Gerein and Jenny Reinhardt; sister-in-law Gladys Young and brother-in-law Jerry Nuttal.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 73 years, Emma (nee Herauf). John and Emma had five children: Susan Wolbaum, Janet Weisgerber (Gerard Lockert), Sandra Turner (Doug), Dan Young (Bonnie), Kim Hedrick (Troy); nine grandchildren: CJ Latimer (Solomon), Jacob Lockert (Mandy), David Lockert, Tracy Mastel (Hugh Dickson), Brett Mastel (Cathy), Tammy Weisgerber (Nigel Gilbert), Jason Young, Christopher Young and Brittany Brown (Dana), and eleven great-grandchildren: Danielle Mastel, Sarah Mastel, Bethany Gilbert, Robin Gilbert, Elijah Sharman, Zion Sharman, Carver Brown, Walker Brown, Wendel Lockert, Johannes Lockert and Eve Lockert. John is also survived by his brother Neil; and sisters Lorraine Stoeber (Jack) and Sylvia Nuttal; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many great friends.

John was born on May 20, 1924 at the farm north of Vibank. He met Emma at a dance and they married July 15, 1947. When John and Emma left the farm, they bought the Variety Store in Vibank and raised their family of five children. He loved his family and spent many happy times at home, at the beach or on holidays.  John will be missed dearly by all! Music was a big part of his life.  Saturday nights were spent playing instruments and when the song books came out – the party was on. A lot of jokes were passed around.

After retirement, John and Emma moved to Buena Vista where they made many good friends and were involved in many activities.   They moved to Regina in 2004.   John made suncatchers and water colour pictures that he gave away to family and many new friends which brought him great joy!

We would like to express our deepest thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff in Palliative Care at the Pasqua Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. and will be viewable at https://youtu.be/Ie8-1u8Tics.
