Susan and family, I was so sad to learn today (from the Emsley’s) of Terry’s passing. He was such a character and so much fun to share time with. Although it’s been year since we’ve seen each other...you came up in conversation over the years and laughter was a big part of the story. RIP Terry...I was honoured to call you my friend. God bless, Anita Germann

Our condolences to Susan and family on this expected loss. I first met Terry 43 years when we both worked at the City of Regina. Terry was the Assistant City Solicitor and I was a recent university graduate working in the City Comptroller’s Office. Terry took interest in everyone, especially young people beginning their careers. I worked with Terry for the next 14 years. Terry was a unique, larger-than-life character - intelligent, well read with many, many interests. He was one of those individuals who always brought deep insights to discussions and business deliberations. More recently, I spent time with Terry on Air Canada flights back from his CBC Board Meetings. He found this board service particularly interesting but we spent most of the time talking about his family. Most of all, I will remember Terry for all the great stories and the laughter we shared. Rest in peace.

It is with great sadness that Joan and I learned of Terry's unexpected passing.
Terry presented himself as a burly figure but beneath that exterior he was a kind and gentle person who genuinely cared about people and their situations.
He was unpretentious and very secure in his own skin. Terry was extremely well read and able to converse on any subject.
Supported by a strong partner in Susan, They raised a warm and loving family and provided generous hospitality to all their guests.
Terry's interests were wide and varied which led to friendships across many spectrums.
I've had the opportunity to meet many people through the years and Terry will always be on my list of the "Most Unforgettable People I have met".
Rest in Peace my friend.

It is difficult to imagine that Terry is no longer with us, but Susan, I cannot imagine the grief that you and your family are feeling right now. Our hearts and thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
Like others I have many great "Terry" stories and memories that go back almost 40 years when I first met Terry at the Legislature in Dave Tkatchuks office. Terry was an individual who left an impression on everyone he met and he certainly did with me. Probably one of the smartest men I have ever met with an endearing personality that was sometimes a bit masked by the grenade and 12 inch hunting knife that he kept in plain sight on his desk:) But he was always there to help with advice and counsel if you asked. Terry was a great friend and generous to a fault! He lived life large and enriched the the lives of anyone that had the good fortune to know him. He will be greatly missed- our sincerest condolences.

I have the fondest memories of Terry. It is hard to believe I met him almost 30 years ago. A kinder, more giving, man you would never meet. Always quick with a laugh and a comment. Even quicker with a helping hand. He was a loyal friend to many. I will remember fondly his visits to my office to share a coffee and just to check in and make sure I was doing okay. Rest In Peace my friend.

Even though it is generally hard to think of Terry without smiling, I’ve been in a foggy place between grief and disbelief since Wednesday. Over the past four decades I had no closer friend, so his passing is not an easy thing to write about. And it seems absurd to try to summarize the life of such a true and loyal friend, such a larger-than-life personality as Terry Anthony Leier, in a paragraph or two. So, I will mention just a few things I hope will contribute in a positive way to our collective memory of Terry.
Nancy once suggested that Terry’s most endearing trait was that he would always defend the person who was not in the room. This struck a clear chord with me and I subsequently observed it on numerous occasions but was never able to master that truly admirable quality as consistently as Terry. He was consistent in a multitude of ways, always there to support others in their miseries or to cheer their successes. Showing up unannounced to present a gift, offer a piece of advice, propose a new idea, share a story, or simply to take you out to lunch was typical of Terry Leier. In those and many other ways, Terry was the most generous person I have ever met. He lived life large as they say, and was perhaps sometimes prone to excess, but that included generosity, a joyful sense of humor and a robust love of life.
He was confident and comfortable in his own skin, never showing a need to compete with his friends or colleagues but always there to share real joy in their victories. He was always among the first to lend a hand, always eager to take up a noble cause, always willing to donate, while always remaining true to his own personal convictions. He was never madly driven to enrich himself in monetary ways but chose rather to enrich his life through an ongoing appreciation of literature, history, music, nature and sport.
Terry’s personal side included a deep love of his wife Susan and a true joy of family and friends. Together, Terry and Susan created a warm and loving household that was apparent to everyone who ever visited the Leier home, a truly welcoming place. The children have clearly inherited these values and we know that they will cherish their father’s memory with the same love, respect and admiration that is shared by his many, many friends.
