Obituary of Joyce Anne Thomas

On Thursday, June 10, 2021 our beloved mother passed away peacefully at the age of 87.  Joyce was born October 29, 1933 in Gretna, MB.  She married Larry Thomas on October 29, 1953.  Their marriage was blessed with three sons.  They resided in Weyburn until the summer of 1962 when they relocated to Regina. In 1969 Mom and Dad purchased the Rosemont Shell and from 1969 to 1978 Dad managed Larry’s Rosemont Shell with Mom by his side as the bookkeeper for the family business.  In the summer of 1978 they sold the business and Dad started a new role managing Whitmore Park Gulf with Mom once again by his side as the bookkeeper.  In 1983, Mom ventured out on a new career challenge as Regina Farmers Market Manager, a position that she held from 1983 – 1997, a career which she enjoyed immensely, socializing with the local producers and vendors from Regina and surrounding area.  In the fall of 1999 Mom and Dad sold their long time Regina residence on Mollard Crescent and relocated to Dilke, SK.  After Dad’s passing, Mom moved back to Regina to be closer to her family.  Mom was a wonderful homemaker, a great cook and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Mom took great pleasure in being the only daughter.  She was so proud of her four brothers and really enjoyed their family gatherings.

Joyce was predeceased by her husband Larry Thomas; son Mark; parents, Cornelius and Ann (nee Freisen); brother Wayne; and sisters-in-law Margaret and Genevieve.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Lance (Debra) and Dean (Debby); grandchildren, Joel (Cereena), Annaliese (Rob), Marc, Shana (Trevor), Mark Jr. (Megan), Chad (Danielle), Leah (Chris), Benjamin (Mary), McKenna (Jack), Dre (A.J.) and Jordan (Courtney); as well as eleven great-grandchildren; her brothers, Laurie, Jim (Lois) and Dennis (June); sisters-in-law Beverly Rusznak and Rose Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Wascana Rehab Unit 3-5. We would also like to express our appreciation to the SHA as they were able to co-ordinate mom’s move into Wascana Rehab through the Re-connection therapy Program to be closer to Mark.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Wascana Rehab unit 3-5.
