My mom-in-law was kind, curious, funny, and thoughtful. I so appreciated how she was very present in her conversations with each person in our family. She loved to give gifts, especially ones she had made. She loved to help in practical ways, but she also was quick to notice and compliment people and to give space for each personality. Mom was unfailingly grateful - even in the most severe circumstances she would be thinking of how blessed she was. This did not fade as her memory started to slip. Instead she became sweeter and sharper both. She thought of funny stories, and made hilarious connections between ideas. She did not give in to complaining but seemed always to focus on others and/or on how many good things she had, including her relationship with her husband. She was so incredibly gentle. I am so grateful to have been lovingly welcomed into her family and I am so grieved by her loss. She was a very, very special person.
