Obituary of Eugene Suchoboki

Eugene Suchoboki Eugene passed with peace and grace on May 17, 2016 with family by his side. Beloved Husband to Yvonne. Reuniting now with his parents Alex and Stella, his sister Sophie, and many other loved ones who have gone to their eternal rest. Daddy to seven children: Debbie, Diane (Robert), Denise (Michael), Doris (Kevin), Dawn (Casey), Darcie, Daniel (Regan). Big brother to: Donna (Tim), Marie (Barry), Gladys (+Eddie), Carol. Grandpa to: David, Jason, Erica, Cory, Emily, Jennica, Kim, Pam, Patti, Nicole, Olivia, Thomas, Isaiah, Sophia. Great-Grandpa to Yari and Mandy. Uncle, Brother-in-Law, Cousin, and friend to many. Eugene was born in Bienfait, SK. As a child growing up in Invermay, SK, he loved to play sports, attend dances, and spent many hours working hard in his parents’ café. He received a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1963. He was an educator for most of his professional life, influencing countless young men and women through SIAST, especially at Kelsey Institute. He said the highlight of his career was to be recognized by the Saskatchewan Labour Force Development Board for having the best training program for Career Laddering in the province in 1997. Dad left his mark on the world in many ways – he surveyed the #1 Highway in the 1960s, taught the Metric system to public servants in Ottawa in the 1970s, and served as the District Governor for Rotary District #5550 from 2001-2002. He was an avid athlete, excelling at fastball and hockey (Go Leafs!). He cheered loud at Rider games and was able to see them win the Grey Cup at home in 2013. He loved to travel and visited almost every continent with his wife Yvonne by his side. Yvonne and Eugene met in Swift Current, SK, and were married in July 1961 at Lac Pelletier, SK. Dad loved to eat good homemade food – Saskatoon pie, butter tarts, perogies, and cantaloupe with his morning bowl of cereal to name a few, washed down with Kickapoo juice! Eugene worked very hard to provide for his family and most remember him for always bringing family together through meals, reunions, slideshows, emails, jokes, and prayer. He loved to fix things and carve wood. He even knew how to sew. Many of the things he did as a father with his children carried on down through his children to his grandchildren He was deeply spiritual and was very involved in the Ukrainian Catholic church parishes he was a member of over the years. He loved to sing and to dance. We will miss him dearly. The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff who cared for Eugene at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre and at the Pasqua Hospital, especially the Palliative Care Unit. In memory of Eugene, we ask that you consider a donation to the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital as they do very important work. Prayers will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1747 Toronto St., Regina, SK. Divine Liturgy will be at 11:00 am on Friday, May 20, 2016 at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church with Fr. Vladimir Simunovic as Celebrant. Following a private burial, family and friends are invited to Resurrection Parish Hall, 3155 Windsor Park Road from 1:00 – 4:00 pm to Celebrate Eugene’s Life.
