Obituary of David Andrew Schulz

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear brother David Andrew Schulz on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 after a long courageous battle with cancer.

David is survived by his sisters Valerie Debooy and Juli Madeychyk (Bo); mother-in-law Leona Leontowicz; brothers-in-law John (Debbie), Brian (Debbie), Gary (Wendy), Kevin and Kenneth; as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his wife Connie; parents David and Lilli Schulz; father-in-law Jack Leontowicz; and brothers-in-law Barry Leontowicz and Larry Debooy. 

David and Connie were married on October 24, 1987.  He was welcomed into the Leontowicz family and remained part of their family throughout his life. David was so grateful for that.

David worked many years for the Provincial Government in Environment and Resource Management.  After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with friends, and playing darts and cards. David was also known far and wide for his passion for making hot pepper pickles. The hotter the better. He also loved his dog Shadow, a large lab-shepherd mix, and she would often be found sitting on David’s lap watching TV. 

After Connie passed away, David’s best friend Terry came to his aide and helped him get out and about, for coffee, shopping and any other excuse David could come up with. We are very grateful for the time Terry spent helping him stay independent as long as possible.

David was delighted to spend some time with his grandnephew Bo when the family came to visit him during his illness. His nephew Jesse also gave David a wonderful surprise when he came to the hospital with his dog to visit and cheer him at a very tough time while hospitalized.  That made his day.

The family is especially grateful to the care and love shown to David by the staff at Trinity Manor and the staff at Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

David, we will miss your laugh and your crazy sense of humor.
