Obituary of Judy Lynn Pinay
On February 24, 2023, Judy Lynn Pinay (Wakinyan Obe Dowan Win), passed away peacefully at the age of 61. She was predeceased by her parents Doris Bellegarde and Bernard Pinay; sister Heather Daigneault; father-in-law Frank Petit; brothers-in-law Leon Montgrand and Kevin Missens.
Judy leaves behind her husband and partner of 43 years, Raymond Petit; children Ray (Anita) Petit and Kimberly Petit; baby girl Kai-La Petit; grandchildren Ryland (her travelling buddy), Alexander, Olive, Elijah, Hazel, Heaven, Cherish, Hope, Sean, Kihew, and Willow; adopted children Robert (Natani) Cardinal, April and Kyle Prosper, Tosha Dawn, Matteo Memnook, and Shadoe Thompson; godchildren Victor Bellegarde, Harlyn Talbot, Keegan Montgrand, and Patrick Bellegarde; godmother Theresa (Susie) Desnomie; honorary parents Clarence (Rosabelle) McNabb and Anita McLeod.
She is also survived by her sisters Glenda Montgrand; Brenda Missens; Peggy Bellegarde; Patti Stonechild; Norma McLean; Leah Swanson; Sonia Desnomie; Ruth-Ann Whitehat; brothers Shawn Bellegarde, Jeff McDonald, and special brother Ron (Bev) Crowe as well as her mother-in-law Beatrice Maurice; sisters-in law Patsy (Andrew) Lariviere, Julia (Tiny) McKay, Yvette Petit, Fonda Park; brothers-in-law Wayne Petit, Dale (Winnie) Petit, Frankie (Jessie) Park, Fabian Park, and Ambrose Daigneault; numerous nieces, nephews and all of the Tiospaye family. Big thank you to the special nieces Leona Brockhoff, Shelly Bitternose, Angela Montgrand, and Chelsea Ward for all that they have done in supporting the family as well as the Old Bitties Club, Marlene Wolfe, Jackie Dieter, Marcia Bitternose, Carrie (Girly) Kitchemonia, and sister Brenda Missens.
Judy followed in the family footsteps of travelling and gave many people the opportunity to travel as well. Las Vegas, Nevada was her second home. She loved gardening and being outdoors. Sewing and beading have been a hobby for several years. Working in accounting for the majority of her life, Judy has had many opportunities to lend her support and volunteer, earning her the Volunteer of the Year award, through her 34 years working with the Treaty Four Gathering. In 2009, Judy convocated from AFOA, earning her designation as a Certified Financial Manager. AFOA opened many doors for Judy, including her acceptance into the Harvard Business College, where she would have attended in May 2023.
A Traditional Wake will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2023 at the Treaty 4 Governance Centre, 740 Sioux Road, Fort Qu’Appelle, SK. Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in the same location.
Special thanks to the nursing staff at Pasqua Hospital Emergency Department, the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, All Nations Healing Hospital, and all those who assisted in bringing Judy home to Fort Qu’Appelle.
All of this came from a walk in the rain.
