Obituary of Helen Louise Schmitt
Helen Schmitt was born at Dilke, SK on October 12, 1924, the 7th child of William and Mabel Meyer.
Due to the drought of the 1930's, the Meyer family moved north to the Carrot River area to start a new life of farming.
Helen married Joe Schmitt on November 1, 1943, and together they farmed, both grain and livestock, in the Carrot River area, for over 50 years.
Helen was very active in the community, involved with the National Farmers Union, New Democratic Party, 4-H, and Jordan River Ladies Club, to mention a few. After retirement, Helen and Joe spent many great winters in Arizona, making many new friends. Helen's final years were spent at the Renaissance in Regina where she also made many new friends.
Helen and Joe had two children. Reg, born in 1944, and JoAnne, born in 1950.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Joe in 1999; son Reg in 2006; parents; as well as all of her siblings.
Helen is survived by her daughter JoAnne (Frank) Ellingsen; daughter-in-law Christine Schmitt; and three grandchildren, Mari Carr (Keith), Kyle (Amanda) Schmitt and Michele (Adam) Ellingsen-Ailsby. Helen is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Spencer, Tanner and Leah Carr, Carter, Colton and Carissa Schmitt and Elias Ailsby; sister-in-law Bertha Schmitt; as well as many nieces and nephews.
At Helen's request, there will be no funeral. A private family gathering will take place later this year.
In Loving Memory
Helen Schmitt
