Obituary of Simon Hashem
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Simon Hashem, on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the age of 70. Simon was born in the mountainous village of Aaqoura, Lebanon and immigrated to Saskatchewan in 1974. He was the youngest of 11 siblings. Simon followed his dream of coming to Canada, becoming an engineer, and raising a large loving family. He could read and write English, French and Arabic.
Simon valued hard work and family. He worked as an engineer for the City of Regina - Hazardous Waste, while paving concrete driveways on the side. In 1990, he was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis which drastically changed his life. Simon’s focus became supporting his children and ensuring they completed higher education. He loved making people laugh, especially the many health care workers who he was forever grateful for. Simon was passionate about Canadian sports and staying in contact with his large extended family. He rarely missed a Roughrider, Jays or Raptors game. Simon was extremely patient and present and did whatever he could to not let his disability affect those around him.
Simon leaves behind his wife, Shannon; sons Michael, Mark, John and Brady; grandchildren, Chloe and Wesley; and a large extended family in Lebanon and Massachusetts.
Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Broadway United Church, 105 Broadway Avenue, Regina, SK. Online messages of condolence may be left at www.paragonfuneralservices.com
