Obituary of Willie Thomas

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Thomas “Willie” on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the age of 68. Willie was born in Kipling, SK and moved to Regina in 1965 with the family and resided there all his life. 

Willie was predeceased by his father, Steve Thomas; mother Pauline Thomas (nee Barath); sister Diane Jackson; brother Kelly Thomas; sister Cindy Thomas; and nephew Colin Jackson.  Willie is survived by sisters and brothers: Linda (Keith) Lalande, Esther (Walter) Omoth, Albert (Beth) Thomas, Gordon (Gayle) Thomas, Julie (Dennis Hunt) Thomas, Georgina (Trevor) Gray, Stephanie (Kenneth Carbajal ) Thomas; brother-in-law Bill Jackson; nieces: Kelly, Dawn, Jaelyn, Amanda, Dianna, Leslie, Alexandria.  Nephews: Stephen, Oliver, Steve, Jordan, Shane, Britton and Brandon; great-nieces: Jessica, Tiffanie, Lily, Chloe, Shae-Lynn, Kaylee and Luna; great-great-niece: Willow; great-nephews: Connor, Colson, Tyler, Luka, Easton, Alec; and great-great-nephew: Benjamin.

Willie worked at various jobs while younger; he retired after 37 years of service with Sears when they closed.

Willie will always be remembered for his joy of fishing and forever working on a vehicle.  He was called on many times to fix or look at something for his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and rarely ever said No.  He was a genius with anything mechanical. 

Willie also helped his brother Gordon on the farm with anything that was needed at the time.

Content with a quiet life, Willie did not like a lot of changes.  He was not much for going out but when you visited him, he always had lots to say.

If a football game was scheduled, especially the Riders, you would always find him at home watching it.  He was a regular user of Kijiji, an avid commentator on CBC forums, also a great fan of watching Youtube videos, occasionally forwarding a joke on that he found very funny.  His favourite Saturday event was attending Regina Auto Auctions which sadly closed their doors this spring.

There will not be a formal service.  Willie’s family will be getting together at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 1:00 PM to celebrate his life and to lay him to rest.
