Florence (nee Schlamp) Stanley

After a lifetime of caring for others, we say farewell to our much-loved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Florence was born and raised in the Grenfell area. As the oldest of three children, she left school early to help look after the household when her own mother died at an early age. This was the beginning of her life as a caregiver. It was at the farm in Grenfell that she met and married Bill in December of 1950.  Bill’s work took the family to several places in Saskatchewan including Rouleau, Green Lake, Langenburg and Regina.

Florence’s life revolved around the home, and she was the heart of it.  She was a valiant person who believed in just getting on with things.  After Bill died, she took on many responsibilities she never had to do before. She was a devoted mother, especially to her daughter Brenda. Once Brenda moved to Wascana Rehab Center, Florence faithfully went every day, regardless of the weather or circumstances, to spend her days with Brenda. Many meals for special events were lovingly prepared and taken to Wascana to be shared with the entire family.

Florence was quite particular about her home and liked things just so.  She was very thrifty and did not believe in waste.  Florence recycled before recycling was a thing.  If something still had a useful purpose, she just couldn’t throw it out.  She was stashing away wash clothes and packages of peanut butter right to the very end.

Florence was a great cook. We all have our favorite dishes she made but unilaterally, everyone loved her cookies and pies. In her spare time, Florence enjoyed knitting dishcloths, crocheting afghans and needle point. We are all blessed to have many samples of her beautiful handiwork. But the thing she loved most of all was sharing a cup of coffee and a cookie with family and friends. She loved her daily chats with her sister, visits with her grandchildren and hearing about their lives.

Without hesitation we say, “well done, good and faith servant.”

Florence was predeceased by her husband, Bill; daughter, Brenda; grandson, Kelly; and her brothers-in-law Guenther Sawatzki and Adam Dreher.

Florence is survived by her children, Larry (Jacki) of Calgary and Dean (Brenda) of Regina; grandchildren, Jay (Skye) of Calgary, grandson Dylan (Carley) of Regina and Alesha (Logan) of Torquay; great-grandsons Theo, Eli and Walker; sisters Betty Dreher and Shirley Sawatzki; special friends Shelley Stanley and Jan Campbell; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In accordance with her wishes, a Graveside Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, SK
