Kerr, Robert Wayne

1944-2024

We are sad to announce the passing of Wayne on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the age of 80 years old.  He leaves behind his wife Joan; his two sons Rocky (Jackie), Trevor (Charlene) and four grandchildren Jasmine, Jade, Samantha and Nathan.  He is also survived by his sister Pat Reichert and brother Bill (Brenda) Kerr.

Wayne grew up in the Unity area where he met and married Joan Schell on February 17, 1968.  They moved around in the beginning until establishing their homestead near Yarbo.

Wayne worked and retired from the K2 Potash Mine (near Esterhazy) after 32 years while continuing to farm.  His favourite part of farming was combining.  Wayne enjoyed his Horned Herefords and when he wasn’t “horse trading” with his brother Bill, he was busy with the real thing.  Wayne enjoyed training and working with his teams of horses over the years to pull wagons, sleighs and the stone boat.  He was well known around the auction sale circuit.  In his later years, he would purchase tractors in various states of repair, get them running, and finish with a new paint job.  Wayne’s painting skills started at a kindergartener level to a mid high school level over the years.

Once the grandchildren came along, Papa’s cattle farm turned into a petting zoo (not by his choice) with lambs (Suzy), mini-horses (Clyde and Dale), “Donkey” rabbits and a faithful dog at his side.  Cattle were still allowed to remain on the farm.

Pa loved to plant many rows of green beans “only cause they grow easy” and lots of beets---which the cows enjoyed eating before he had a chance to pick them.  His love for gardening stayed with him till his final days.

Because of his style of humour and “unique sayings”, many years ago we started the family tradition of the “Jack Ass Award”, the trophy was highly coveted by all family members every Christmas.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
