Obituary of Robert William Miller
Robert “Bob” William Miller of Regina, SK shed his mortal coil and passed from this world on Monday, September 2, 2024, after a final visit from family. A man without affectations, “Bob” (as he preferred to be called), was a quiet and independent soul whose life experiences ranged from prospecting and gold mining in the Yukon, to teaching English as a second language and, of course, his career as a lawyer.
Born on November 12, 1939, in Govan, SK, to William “Bill” and Violet May Miller, his earliest years were spent on the family farm. The family later moved to Regina. It was there that Bob, his sister, Marg Forbes and later, the “twins”- younger brother Murray (Barb) and sister Linda Euteneier grew up.
Bob was a bright, curious child. He developed a life-long passion for history and the law. Upon completing his BA in History at the University of Alberta he achieved an LLB. Married to Gale (Henning) in 1959, they had two children – Rob Miller and Vanessa O'Connor. Bob was always interested in hearing about Vanessa’s two children, his granddaughters, Camilla and Olivia. In 1965, Bob and Gale moved to the Yukon on a great adventure in both their careers and raising a family. It was there that Bob practiced as a Senior Crown Prosecutor and began to feel the allure of the “mother lode” of gold still haunting the Yukon. With partners, Bob began to re-develop mining claims at Livingstone Creek and spent many happy summers at the site. By the mid-1970’s, Bob began working as Editor-in-Chief of the Western Weekly Law Reports, and later practiced real estate law for a time. He returned to Regina where he met his long-time friend and companion, Eve Dunn, now living in England.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; and brothers-in-law Gordon Forbes and Karl Euteneier.
Bob will be remembered for his strong sense of ethics. His philosophical outlook would likely be best described as “Stoicism” for he was patient, kind, and, above all, a rational thinker.
As per Bob’s request, there will be no funeral service.
Goodbye Bob / Dad – till we meet again...
In Loving Memory
Robert Miller
