ACHTEMICHUK, Brenda Margaret (nee Fleming)

January 31, 1953 - October 30, 2024

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandma/nana on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Mom passed away peacefully with her devoted husband by her side, just the way she wanted it.  Another life cut short by cancer.  She was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, on June 10, 2021. Mom fought with grace and dignity, relying on her hope and immense faith to provide us an additional three years and five months with her. Mom was born on January 31, 1953 in Lampman, SK. She will be remembered by Eugene, her loving husband of 52 years; daughters Kathy (Alf) Trudelle, Donna (Chad) Cavers and Sharon (Greg) Miller; grandchildren Avery, Jordyn and Jayk Trudelle, Alex and Ty Cavers, Gabby and Olivia Miller; brother Alphy (Marilyn) Fleming, sisters Rhonda (Bob) Baudria and Cory (Milton) Elmy; and mother-in-law, Annie Achtemichuk (Baba). Mom will also be missed by numerous family members and dear friends.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, Vic and Irene Fleming; sister Gloria Fleming; brother Perry Fleming; grandparents Lawrence and Margaret Schmidt; father-in-law, John Achtemichuk; and many other loving friends and family members who welcomed her with open arms.

We spent many summers camping together as a family. Once mom and dad were retired, they found their love for travelling. They travelled to Hawaii a number of times, a place mom loved dearly, Ukraine, Dominican Republic, Cuba and Palm Springs. Mom enjoyed reading and listening to music, especially listening to Elvis Presley.

Brenda was a stay-at-home mom, raising her three daughters. When the last daughter started school, mom volunteered in her children’s school library while she completed education to become an instructional assistant. She worked at various elementary schools within the Regina Catholic School Division for 19 years. Mom loved her job thoroughly and built so many lasting friendships over these years.

Mom loved watching her daughters grow up, graduate and succeed in their careers.  She was always happiest when she was spending time with all of her grandchildren.  If the kids had a sports game, concert, school event or they just wanted to visit grandma and grandpa, mom was there.  Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and always will be.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff and physicians of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, Regina Palliative Care Aides and the Regina Home Care Aides for their dedicated care in the past 12 months, allowing mom to stay at home for as long as possible. The Palliative Care Aides came to be a part of our family. Thank you to the compassionate staff at the Regina Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit (3A), who made mom’s last days special for her and our family. The nurses and doctors of this unit are exceptional, and we would like to thank them from the bottom of our hearts for taking such incredible care of Mom.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Regina Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit (3A) or the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.

Mom will be greatly missed by all.  Heaven has gained another amazing angel, and earth has lost a beautiful soul.  Every time we look up to the night sky and see the stars shining brightly, we will know you are watching over us Mom, our guardian angel. We love you to the moon and back!
