Obituary of Arthur Frederick Bender

Please share a memory of Arthur to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that the family of Arthur Frederick Bender announces the passing of this wonderful man on Thursday, December 5, 2024 after a short illness. He passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side.

Art was born in Kandahar, SK on August 3, 1937, to George and Helen Bender. He grew up on the family farm and attended Bognar School. After school, he worked on the farm with his twin brother, George.

Art married Valda Vanos on July 16, 1960, and together they raised two daughters, Linda and Donna. Throughout his life, Art engaged in farming alongside his brother, George. In 1994, he sold the farm and relocated to Regina to be closer to his daughters. Even after retiring, he continued to work for a farmer near Regina, demonstrating his lifelong passion for farming. Additionally, Art was employed at the Co-op Gas Bar for many years until his full retirement. This was an ideal environment for Art, who had a natural talent for engaging in conversation with others. Upon retirement, he took pleasure in visiting the Northgate Mall for coffee and socializing with his coffee group.

Art was a compassionate individual who took pleasure in assisting his family, friends, and neighbours with any task they required help with. He was truly a devoted family man. Nothing was more important to Art than his family, and he treasured every moment spent with them, and loved coming to the lake in the summertime to spend a Saturday visiting with his family. We will all remember his daily phone calls, especially those with our mom, Valda, on the other line reminding Dad that it was time to end the call, and Dad replying that he was not finished talking yet. He loved to hear all about your day and just chat. Dad spoke about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with immense pride and took great joy in their achievements.

Art was predeceased by his parents George and Helen; brothers Alex and Henry; and sister Olga. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Valda; daughters Linda (Fred) and Donna (Kevin); grandchildren Ricky (Caitlin), Shelton (Alyssa), Kayla (Braedyn) and Trinton (Sarah); great-grandchildren Tailor, Tanner, Ella, Hudson, and Layla; siblings Anne Sands, George (Sylvia) Bender; sister in-law Darlene Bender; along with many nieces and nephews.

To honor his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, a celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2025.

Rest in peace, you will be dearly missed. We love you!
