Carman grew up on the family north of Ogema, SK and attended the local school at Bures. He often missed school to help his Dad with the farming, especially after his father's health weakened with cancer. The family moved to a farm at Khedive, SK. in 1953 and it was here that Carman met Marie Doughty. They were married 9th November 1956 and lived in a small house on the Svedahl farm for a few years before moving to Moreland, SK. to live and work with Marie's parents, Scotty and Pearl Doughty.

Carman was a natural mechanic, handy at welding, making and fixing things. In 1959 he purchased an old gas tanker and using rejected pipe from a steel factory, he built a 30-foot flat trailer with removable sides to haul cattle, grain and bales - and that was the birth of "Svedahl Transport!". For the next 20 years Carman divided his time between farming and hauling cattle. When he sold his company in 1978 the fleet had grown to seven semi-trucks and trailers.

In 1983 their youngest son, Brett took over the farm, so Carman & Marie moved to Regina where Carman built a new home. Every year he took time to help Brett with the farming. He was proud of the fact that he'd run a combine every fall for 70 years.

Carman went back long hauling from 1986 – 1992, driving for Highland Transport. He kept his Semi Driver's license until 2015, the last dozen years he would deliver grain bins around Saskatchewan. He liked these excursions into the rural areas where he could check on the progress of the grain crops.

Carman enjoyed the many years he spent working with his longtime friend Al Kisner at CMS Metals. He also spent hours every day on his computer – he was not afraid of modern technology having two computers and three monitors and going back and forth with ease.

It was very apparent to all that Marie was the love of his life. They had a wonderful life together and this carried over into his love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He would try to be the first to feed a baby ice cream or pickles – and as they grew older he always offered positive encouragement.  Carman was a "people person" - he talked to everyone, young and old. He endeared himself to the staff at the Pangman Care facility in the four short days he was there because of his ready smile and words of appreciation.

The family often quote their favourite "Carman saying" - "There is no such thing as a bad desert, some are just better than others!" He will be missed!

Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 3510 Queen St., Regina, SK.
