Obituary of Donald Keith McKague
Donald MCKAGUE
Donald Keith, born on November 9, 1947, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2017 with his family by his side. Predeceased by his parents Elwood and Ruth, and sister Marilyn Ross. Don is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Judy; daughters Michelle; Christine (Aaron) Barlow; son Donald Jr; grandchildren Jayda (Ryan) Apperley, Isaiah Silljer; great grandchildren Nyxon and Finley Apperley; brother Bruce (Judy) of Elora, ON; sisters Shelley (Ed) Germain of Alida, SK, Maureen (Gene) Talbott of Olds, AB and brother-in-law Bob Ross. He is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces and nephews that were very special to him and long-time friends. Don was raised in Ogema, SK and later moved to Regina where he and the love of his life Judy raised their family. He spent his career with Westfair Foods until 1991 when he was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Don received a life saving bone marrow transplant at the Vancouver General Hospital in March of 1992 and the family will forever be grateful to his sister Maureen who was the donor. Don has considered the last 26 years to be a gift where he has spent his happiest days doing what he loved most: camping, fishing and hunting with dear friends and family. There was nothing better than being in a pasture with his hunting dog or in his boat on Pasqua Lake on a warm summer morning when the water was like glass. Don was a storyteller and loved to reminisce of his youthful days in Ogema, playing the tambourine and singing in his high school band and his many hunting and fishing trips. He had a soft spot for sappy movies and happy endings. Through his struggles he showed great strength and courage and will be missed by all who knew him. Special thanks to the staff at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for the incredible care they provided to Don and family since his arrival on November 14th. At his request, a private family interment and celebration of life will be held at a later date. Friends so wishing may make donations in memoriam to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3.
In Loving Memory
