Obituary of Martha Wood
Wood, Martha Marguerite
Martha passed away in her sleep on March 9, 2018. She was born and raised on the family farm near Central Butte, Saskatchewan. Along with her brothers and sisters, she attended Menzies School in Central Butte. After graduating from Business School in Moose Jaw in 1944, she worked at the Bank of Commerce in Moose Jaw, Calgary and Vancouver, before settling in Regina in 1961. Martha began a career with the Dept. of Highways in 1962, where she worked until her retirement in 1987. Despite some difficult challenges in life, Martha was an incredibly positive person with a sharp wit and a great sense of humor. Many hours were spent with her boys watching Monty Python, Benny Hill, and other comedies. She was often brought to tears by the antics of Tim Conway on the Carol Burnett show! She also loved her Blue Jays and was tickled pink by their World Series victories in 1992 and 1993. Like all moms Martha was very supportive of her sons, helping in any way she could to prepare them for life. She loved her grandsons Jordan and Payton to pieces, and enjoyed spending as much time with them as she could. In 2009 Martha began to show signs of the disease that would eventually overcome her. She moved out of the home that she purchased in 1973, and into a progression of care facilities. A fall and subsequent broken hip led her to Regina Pioneer Village, where she spent her remaining days. Martha was a loving and doting mother, a loving and supportive sister and daughter, the “cool” aunt to some, and a wonderful friend. She was a memorable woman with a beautiful and engaging smile, and she will be missed dearly by anyone and everyone who was fortunate enough to have known her. She had a heart of gold and will go straight to heaven in the express lane, if there is one.
Rest in Peace mom, we will miss you.
A Celebration for Martha’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2015 4th Ave. N, Regina, SK. The family wishes to give a huge thank you to the staff of the main west ward at Regina Pioneer Village for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations are made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan
