Obituary of Robert Kush
Robert (Bob) Kush
September 20, 1925 – May 10, 2018
Bob passed away peacefully on the evening of May 10, 2018 with his wife and family at his side. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Dora, his sister Helen Sawka, his brother Russel, and his grandson Nathan Kondratoff. He is survived by Stella, his wife of 66 years, his daughter Brenda Kondratoff (Allan), sons Bruce (Kim), Murray (Tanys), and Dean (Sandra), and six grandchildren: Nolan (Taunya), Breanne (Brad), Elisha (Logan), Amanda, Nick and Hannah, and three great grandchildren, Isabelle, Jett, and Emily.
Bob was born in Skoryky Ukraine. In 1934, at the age of 9, he immigrated to Canada and his family settled in the Hyas area. As a young man Bob worked in Winnipeg, Northern Manitoba, and later drove a logging truck in BC. He joined the army in 1944 and after training he spent time in England, Holland, Belgium and occupied Germany. After the war was over in Europe, Bob volunteered for service in the Japanese campaign but that conflict ended soon after and he was discharged in 1946. Bob returned home to Hyas and began farming. In 1949 he met Stella and in 1951 they were married. They settled on their new farm northeast of Hyas where they had their first two children, Brenda and Bruce. They moved to Hyas in 1963 and had two more children, Murray and Dean. Bob and Stella retired from farming in 1978 and began renting out their land. Bob and Stella lived in Hyas for 35 years until health issues forced them to move to Yorkton and later Regina. Bob was active in the Hyas community and enjoyed curling, fishing, playing cards, slo-pitch, antique collecting, and auction sales. He also enjoyed buying and selling pickup trucks, 4 x 4’s and antique vehicles. But his true passion was hunting. Bob was well known for his sharp wit and enjoyed telling or listening to jokes or humorous stories. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens (4 kms east of Yorkton on Hwy 10). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.
