Obituary of Marjorie Ellen Hewitt
HEWITT, Marjorie Ellen
Marjorie passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Grace Hospice in Regina. She was 96. Marjorie is survived by her daughter Kathleen Hewitt, son Don Hewitt (Arlene Syrota), grandsons Paul Hewitt and Evan Hewitt, her sister in law Ruth Jeeves, and many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Earl Hewitt in 2003. Marjorie and Earl met as toddlers through an association between their fathers who were veterinarians. Their paths crossed later, resulting in a 52 year marriage. Upon Earl’s failing health they moved to Queen Victoria Estates where they enjoyed many happy years. Marjorie is also predeceased by her parents Francis and Olive Humphreys, and her three siblings, Reg Humphreys, Allyn Humphreys and Kathleen Stundon. Marjorie was born in Regina on December 7, 1921.
She completed her Nursing Degree at the University of British Columbia in 1946. Marjorie worked as a registered nurse, and also as a nursing instructor at the Grey Nuns School of Nursing in Regina, now the Pasqua Hospital.
Marjorie also worked for the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association before fully retiring in 1984. Earl and Marjorie enjoyed travelling. Together they experienced many parts of the world including trips to Europe and Australia. They cherished their last trip together to Jasper, Alberta. Marjorie was a wonderful cook and hostess. Her lemon pie and Christmas dinners were marvelous. She enjoyed gardening and sewing and was a lifelong member of Wesley United Church. Despite losing her eyesight Marjorie never lost her yearning to learn. She listened to audio books by the hundreds. Marjorie endured many health challenges in her final years, but still enjoyed sharing a laugh, and continued to maintain a positive attitude. Marjorie always lived life on her own terms and did so right to the end. The family would sincerely like to thank the staff at Riverbend Memory Care Centre, Pasqua 3D and Grace Hospice, along with Dr. Kobus De Witt. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Wesley United Church, 3913 Hillsdale St., Regina, SK. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined, donations in Marjorie’s memory may be made to CNIB.
