Obituary of Jerry Wilfred Hoberg

Jerry Wilfred Hoberg passed away peacefully at home on September 21st, 2018 at the age of 78. Jerry is predeceased by his loving wife, Darlyne Evelyn Hoberg, his parents Stanley Wilfred Hoberg and Disa Patrica Peterson, and his brother Kim. 

He will be missed and remembered by:  his daughter Lisa (Shaun) Hastings, his son Wayne (Tamara) Hoberg, and his daughter Lana (Michael) LaFontaine. Grandchildren Sarah and Sadie Hastings, Raquelle and Jocelyn Hoberg and Disa, Hayden, and Ava LaFontaine.  His brother Doug (Anne) Hoberg and his sister Dianne (Don) Health, and brother Jim will also mourn his loss.

Jerry was born in February of 1940 at the farm near Elfros, SK.  His grandma Bjarnason and grandma Peterson were mid-wives at his birth.  Jerry spent his early years in school at Bertdale and then moved to Foam Lake to attend high school.  Jerry married his life-long companion, Darlyne, in 1962. He was hired as a Helper at Hubbard, Saskatchewan for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in 1962 and worked for the Wheat Pool until his retirement in 1995.  After retiring from a successful career at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Jerry and Darlyne bought a farm north of Edenwold.  They filled their time with raising and selling Boer goats, visiting friends and family and helping to raise their grandchildren.  Jerry loved his family and went out of his way to be with them and help them when he could.  He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed kibitzing with family and friends.  Jerry struggled with some health issues in 2006 and 2008 but recovered well.  After Darlyne’s passing, he remained independent and lived on the farm where he continued to keep busy visiting family and friends and taking care of the farm. The weekly coffee gatherings with his kids and grandkids will not be the same.  He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends and all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, Edenwold, SK.
