In shock still.
I searched my memory for an occasion that stands out. Try as I might,I drew a blank.
Nothing jumped out. So I put this note aside. I thought and thought. Still nothing. How can this be?
On the prairies and when she visited the coast,I had spent countless hours talking with her. I loved talking with her.
Her memory was sharp and her renditions of stories and events were clear and unbiased. Her eye's had a spark.
If there was trouble she was sincere in her support.
Then it hit me. That was it !! Steadfast !!
Bab's loved a joke and knew how to tell one. She loved to laugh.
She, in hard times, when others were loosing it, was the one to smile and reassure everyone that things would work out.
Her confidence and smile made the clouds lift.
She would remind people that things could always be worse, and she'd smile that positive smile.
She defended me on every occasion. She defended everyone that wasn't in the room, even if they didn't deserve it.
She ALWAYS spoke the truth.
It hit me like a brick. There wasn't any one thing that stood out in my memory because it was ALL.
Auntie Bab's was unwavering in her love. She did not have favourites, she did not hold a grudge.
Even when she was angry she still would laugh and have that infectious twinkle. There was no one thing because it was everything.
Bab's was the rock. Everybody's rock.
We should all try and be a little like Bab's, be someones anchor.
I can hear her laughing now, and calling me a little shit.
This little shit says Thanks Auntie, thanks for being there for me.
