Obituary of Mae Jean LaFayette
Mae Jean LaFayette (nee Butler)
1937-2018
Mae was born in Lestock and attended school in both Lumsden and Regina. She later attended Marvel Beauty School here in Regina where she met and married Ed LaFayette in 1958. The family lived briefly in Saskatoon where Mae was an instructor at Marvel Beauty School. Upon their return to Regina, Mae raised her family, pursued hobbies and interests and helped to run the family business. She participated in a ten-pin bowling league. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, tatting, stitching, ceramics, bingo, gardening and was a great cook. She became a devoted and skilled golfer (she rated courses for the Saskatchewan Golf Association). She was an avid cake decorator and was well known for her gingerbread houses like the ones she made and gifted each Christmas to Dales House for 20 plus years. She knitted and crocheted regularly and in recent years made scarves and blankets for the charity, “Angels for Warmth,” (where she made some new and dear friendships). Mae is predeceased by her parents (John & Ethel Butler) and all fourteen of her siblings as well as her father-in-law (Karl LaFayette). She is survived by four children: Earl (Jeannette) and their daughter Jennifer (Andy) and their son Jonathon (his wife Leslie and their children Chloe, Aubrey and Natalie); Sherry (Chris), and their daughter Quinn (her husband Jeff and their children Deklan and Laughlin) and their son Logan; Desiree (Pat) and their son Ethan; and, of course, Guy (who took such great care of our mom these past two years up until her death November 17). She also had numerous sisters/brothers in-law as well as nieces and nephews, some of whom held special places in her life and in her heart. She appreciated all the visits and flowers and cherished every “I love you” from all the family and dear friends who visited her these past few months. The family wishes to acknowledge the sincere and wonderful care Mae received from her physician, Dr Carla Barkman, her pharmacist, Dallas Wiesner, the sweethearts from Palliative Home Care, the Pasqua Palliative Care Ward and the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice. Thank you. The family held a private service with interment at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
In Loving Memory
Mae LaFayette
