Obituary of Robert Thomas
THOMAS, Robert
It is with sad hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Grampa, Papa, brother and friend, Bob Thomas, who passed away peacefully on November 23, 2018 with his family at his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Leslie Crawford, Ken Thomas (Jen), Karen Kostron and Jennifer Thomas; his grandchildren, Kristin Crawford, Laura Crawford (Brett), Cassidy Crawford, Tyler Kostron, Julia Day and Jenaya Kostron; his brother Ron (Bonnie) Thomas; and friends Greg and Olive White, Bob and Charlotte Oberthier.
Bob was born in Regina in 1938 to parents Adam and Tory Thomas, whom predeceased him in 1981 and 1996. He attended St. Joseph’s School and Campion High School where he graduated in 1956. He was an All-Star football player, city and provincial champion in both 1955 and 1956. Bob attended the U of S where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1960.
Bob worked for the Department of Commerce as an analyst. After several years he was unable to work full time due to Multiple Sclerosis. However, he was able to continue with his volunteer work, including the Wascana Rehabilitation School and speech department, Regina Paratransit Authority, Regina Housing, Pioneer Village, and the Sask. Mobility Council.
He had a keen interest in his family history and for years collected data as far back as he could.
His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He always made the effort to attend swimming and gymnastics lessons, dance recitals, football, hockey and ringette games of his grandkids. He especially developed a close bond with his Regina grandkids, chatting with them almost daily.
He enjoyed friendships with many from elementary and high school, his condominium on Arens Road, and most recently at Green Falls Landing (GFL). To his surprise, he thoroughly enjoyed his friends and the activities at GFL, and we are grateful for the happiness he gained from them.
A huge thank-you to the staff at Pasqua Hospital 3A (Katie, Bonny and Megan) for their kind and compassionate care during his final days. A funeral service will be held in the New Year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or the Saskatchewan Diabetes Association.
