Obituary of Vern Huber
It is with great sadness that the family of Vern Huber, announce his passing on March 20, 2019 at the age of 84. Vern passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family in Regina after a brief stay in hospital. Dad’s deep faith carried him through many years of illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Adam (1975) Anna (Michalski) (1994) and many relatives and friends. Vern is lovingly remembered by his wife Geri (Zimmer) of 57 years, son Warren (Shari); Eden and Payton of Regina, daughter Shelley of Calgary, daughter Cara (David); Lydia of Martensville, and son Brendan (Randi); Rylie of Wilmington, MA, USA. Vern and Geri were married on September 2, 1961. He spent the early years farming in the Killaly area. Vern was a school bus driver and employed at the potash mine near Esterhazy. In 1968 they began operation of V & G Grocery. After 32 years, Mr. Huber as he was known to many, retired to Regina. He was actively involved in ball, curling, hockey, and bowling. As an enthusiastic member of the Killaly Athletic Club, he worked tirelessly organizing the annual Sports Day and many curling bonspiels. Dad was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and LA Dodgers. Dad coached, umpired, mentored, and shared his love of sports with his children. Vern was recognized for his dedicated years of service on town council. Vern enjoyed playing cards especially cribbage with friends and family. In his retirement he took up and excelled at lawn bowling. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Pasqua Hospital, particularly the Pallative Care Unit. A prayer vigil will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m at Holy Cross Parish. Funeral service will be Monday, March 25, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish, 315 Douglas Ave. E, Regina. A luncheon to follow. Vern’s ashes will be placed at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery following the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association, Saskatchewan, 1231 8th Street E, Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S5 or Palliative Care Unit, Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Ave, Regina, SK S4T 1A5 or a charity of their choice.
