Obituary of Lillian Ethel McKenzie

Lillian Ethel McKenzie (nee Churchman), died, age 93, the morning of Saturday, May 11, 2019.  She was predeceased by her husband, Art (2001); parents, Ernest and Lillian; parents-in-law Russell and Irene; brothers, Bill (Vera), Erne (Isabel), Herb (Pauline) and Bob; and sister Hazel (Alf) Olive.  Lillian is survived by her children, Linda, Robin (Jill), Doug (Patty) and Ellen (Paul).  She is also survived by her brother Allan (Mary, deceased); sister-in-law Lauretta; granddaughter Lisa and other extended family.  In her later years, she was especially close to her grandchildren, Sean (Tina), Annaliese and Benjamin; and her great-grandsons Samuel and Henry.

Lillian was born and raised near the hamlet of Ellisboro, north of Wolseley.  She trained, in Regina and Wisconsin, to be a teacher.  She moved to Regina in 1949 and was employed in the Education branch of the National Film Board.   Throughout her life, Lillian had a special bond with young children: in her family, neighbourhood and community.

After her husband’s death, Lillian continued to live independently with the support of her family.  For the last five months, Lillian’s home has been in Unit 3W of Pioneer Village.  The care she received there was truly exceptional.  In particular, Myrna and Almaz gave her love, attention and respect.  Their presence helped Lillian and her family through difficult times.

Honouring Lillians’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.  Cremation has taken place and her ashes will be scattered near Ellisboro, SK at a later date.  Donations in memory of Lillian may be made to the Unitarian Fellowship, 2700 College Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 1V1, Regina Pioneer Village 430 Pioneer Drive, Regina, SK S4T 6L8 or to a charity of your choice.
