Obituary of Floyd Loucks
Floyd Loucks passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Grasslands Health Centre, Rockglen, SK at the age of 93. He was born on December 17, 1927 in Assiniboia, SK to Joe and Blanche Loucks, the second of four children. His younger years were spent working with his Dad, hunting, playing hockey and horseback riding. He attended school in Fife Lake until Grade 11 and then joined the South Saskatchewan Reserve Regiment at Dundurn for basic training. Floyd then went to NAIT in Edmonton for a year and studied Diesel Mechanics, returning home to begin his farming career in 1945. He married Adeline Burnay in 1952 and together they lived, farmed and raised their three boys in the Fife Lake area.
Floyd loved music and dancing and could always be counted on to grab the mic and guitar for a little sing along. “Walk Me to The Door” was his favorite song to perform.
Floyd was an avid hunter and had many great hunting buddies through the years. He enjoyed riding horses and took part in many of the Wood Mountain Wagon Trains.
Along with Adeline they enjoyed curling and were a big part of the Fife Lake Curling Club. He loved to watch his boys’ hockey games and fundraise at the local rink, selling decks of cards on mickeys of liquor (he called the Oat Pail).
Floyd spent 8 years on the R.M. Council and was a crop reporter in the area for SK Agriculture for 25 years.
Floyd was a true farmer with a love of land and animals. He remained on the farm until 2010, then moved to the Rolling Hills Lodge in Rockglen. Still wanting to remain active in farming, he continued to harvest and help out. Floyd took great pleasure in farming with his sons and granddaughter Kendra. Floyd enjoyed his Lodge life. He had lots of company, ample time to put the kettle on for a “hot one,” and loved sharing his baked goods with the rest of the lodge crew.
He had a very large circle of friends and acquaintances from many miles around.
In 2020 Floyd’s health began to fail and he moved into Grassland Health Centre in December. He is remembered by many for his ever-positive outlook on life, right up until the day of his death. He was predeceased by his wife Adeline; and brothers Burton and Lester.
Floyd is survived by his three sons, Lavern (Margaret), Dallas (Darlene) and Terry (Arliss); grandchildren Derrick (Trish), Kendra, Stensen, Rylan (Marta), Landon (Jade), Jillian Foley (Ty), Sage and Jan; along with 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; his only sister Sylvia (Don) Milne; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends
A Private Family Service celebrating Floyd’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Wesley United Church, Rockglen SK. For those not able to physically attend, a livestream may be viewed at https://fb.me/e/yN1qLkzR, with interment to follow at Fife Lake Municipal Cemetery.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Rockglen Health Care Auxiliary Memorial for the Grasslands Health Centre.
