Obituary of Murray Leonard Otterson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Murray Otterson on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the age of 71.
After 43 years of marriage, Murray will be lovingly remembered by his wife and partner, Sandra; their children Mark (Lindsay) Otterson and Laura (Barry) Wilson; as well as their grandchildren, Rebecca and James Otterson, and Wyatt and Teagan Wilson. He will also be remembered by his brothers: Amund (Terry) Otterson, Hugh (Wendy) Otterson and Earl (Roxanne) Otterson; sisters: Shirley (George) Snead, Jean Weild and Rita (Dale) Suderman; brother-in-law Philip (June) Leonard; sister-in-law Karen (Jim) Doppler; and parents-in-law John and Bernice Leonard; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Murray was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Margaret Otterson; brother-in-law Greg Weild; and niece Myranda Weild.
Murray was born and raised in Gravelbourg, SK. He grew up on the family farm with his parents and six siblings. Murray married Sandra Leonard in 1979 and together raised their two children in Regina, SK.
Murray started his career at Municipal Hail Insurance in 1972, holding a number of positions before he was appointed CEO in 1987. Murray stewarded Municipal Hail through many changes in the business, and he took a great deal of pride in managing a strong, resilient organization that met its commitments to Saskatchewan farmers, through both successful and challenging seasons.
After retiring at 57, Murray found his next passion in renovations when they moved to Willow Bunch, SK. They met some of their best friends in Willow Bunch while continuing his building projects alongside his brother, Earl. They returned to Regina in 2018, with many visits to Willow Bunch.
Murray loved spending time with his grandchildren. He had endless patience with them when they were little and was excited to watch them grow up and see what they would become. They were lucky to call him Grandpa.
The family would like to thank all their family and friends for their support in the last few months. Special thanks to their friends in Willow Bunch and his brother, Earl and nephew, Chris for helping to complete work on their final project, a summer home in Willow Bunch, when Murray couldn’t.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 12th from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Wesley United Church, 3913 Hillsdale Street, Regina, SK.
In Loving Memory
