Obituary of Gail Marlene Berner
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Gail Berner on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the age of 69. Gail’s love, kindness, and gentle spirit made the world brighter for everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Gail will forever be cherished by her daughter Courtney (Vee) Souriyavong; son Coltin (Courtney) Dolha; devoted brothers Lorne (Lorie), Larry (Glenna), Dennis (Betty), and Chris (Leslie); grandbabies Opal, Asher, Ruby, Summer and Wren; dear cousin Annette; longtime friends Pam and Susan; countless nieces and nephews who she adored beyond words; along with a large circle of family and friends. Gail now rests peacefully, reunited with her parents Mabel and Henry; sister-in-law Marion; and lifelong best friend Dexter. While we mourn her loss, we find comfort in knowing she is surrounded by love in the arms of those she missed so much.
Gail was the heart of every gathering, a constant source of love and laughter. For 46+ years, she worked as a cashier at Safeway, where she didn’t just work—she thrived, building lifelong friendships and touching the lives of coworkers and customers alike. Her smile was a gift, her kindness an example, and her presence a comfort to all who knew her.
Above all, Gail’s greatest love was her family. She found beauty in the simple moments. Gail loved nothing more than walking her pup, Tucker, or being the goofy Gam Gam with her grandbabies. Holidays were magical in her hands, filled with traditions like baking cookies and raiding the dollar store for treasures. Some of her happiest days were spent sitting by the campfire with her brothers, sharing stories and laughter, or chatting for hours on the phone with friends. Whether it was savouring a quiet coffee, a handful of jujubes or offering a warm hug when you needed it most, Gail’s joy was found in the little things that made life beautiful.
Gail’s life was a testament to love; unconditional, selfless, and unwavering. She taught us to find joy in the everyday, to give without expecting in return, and to treasure the people we hold dear. Her warmth, humor, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the incredible doctors, nurses, friends, and family who cared for Gail and supported us during this time. Your kindness has meant more than words can express.
Though we will miss her deeply, we take solace in the knowledge that her light will never fade. We are better for having had her in our lives and will carry her memory with us always.
Rest peacefully, Gam Gam—you are forever in our hearts.
Per Mom’s request, no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pasqua Hospital, Palliative Care Unit.
In Loving Memory
Gail Berner
